Nutrition

Along with our PE CARES we also teach a unit about nutrition.  What we have to do as individuals to keep our bodies healthy.  We discuss eating right (foods from the 5 different food groups) and being active ( 5 days a week with 60 minutes of activity).  The pictures you are going to see are of students riding in their “scooter car” going to the grocery store and picking out food items from the five different food groups.  The kids had a riot and learned a lot too!  Just a reminder, PE CARES is finished tomorrow, Fri. Nov.16

Turkey Trot!

Such a BUMMER, that the turkey trot race was canceled last night.  Obviously we could not run with thunder and lightning.  Thanks to all those who came out to volunteer and got wet, before it was canceled.  There are so many details that go into planning the turkey trot, that rescheduling is not an option.  So I hope you understand.  We wanted to let you know that each school divide up the prizes.  We took all the GT participants and did a prize drawing, the winners were as follows:  If your child was a prize winner they will be coming home with an information sheet.  Turkeys and pumpkins need to be picked up in the school office by Friday Oct. 25 by 3:30.

Turkey winners: Caleb Denhof, Jakob Wortman, Zachary VanderPloeg, Josh Gerger

Pumpkin winners: Bryce Baar, Ben Bier, Justin Schipper, Sam Hagberg

Juice winners:  Justins Schipper, Alivia Peterson, Caleb Vanderlugt,  Maddie Wierda

Congratulations!!!!!!

Fun Fact!

Our Fun Fact for the week is…Fingernails grow nearly 4 times faster than toenails.   If you notice that you are trimming your fingernails more often than your toenails, you are right!  The nails that get the most exposure and that are used more frequently grow the fastest!

Muscle of the Month

This week in P.E. we started to teach a new muscle to our 1st through 5th grade students.  Our muscle this month is the abdominals.  These are your stomach muscles and we do sit-ups every P.E. class to make them stronger!  You can help your child with their sit-ups by holding their ankles and timing them for 1 minute to see how many they can do.  This will help them to get ready for their fitness test!

FUN FACT

The human body is estimated to have 60,ooo miles of blood vessels.  To put that in perspective, the distance around the earth is about 25,000 miles, making the distance your blood vessels could travel if laid end to end more than 2 times around the earth!!

G.T. Wall of Fame!!

The First week of school is coming rapidly and we would love to have all of our students bring a picture of themselves being active for our GT Wall of Fame.  We will hang these pictures in the gym.  Pictures of them playing sports, dance, gymnastics, swimming, anything active goes.  Can’t wait to see them!

Georgetown Fun Run!!!!

We have had many requests to hold a fun run at school to accommodate families that cannot make it to the May 9 5th/3rd Fun Run or the May 12 RiverBank Run.This Georgetown Fun Run will be held on May 4 at 2 pm on the Georgetown Walking Path.  All students will be able to walk in honor of all those we know who have fought or are fighting cancer.Originally, Mr. Kooiker set a challenge of shaving his head if 100 students donated $1.00 or more to Spencer’s medical expense fund.  However, that group has grown to a total of five staff members willing to shave their hair for Spencer. These staff members are:  Mr. Kooiker, Mr. Gort, Mr. Rob (our custodian), Mr. Bialochowski and Mr. Bowen!   We will open the run with head shaving IF we can get 100 students to donate toward Spencer’s Meyer’s Medical Fund.

Your form must be in by Friday, April 27…with your donation money.
You also have the OPTION of getting a TEAM SPENCER T-SHIRT.  These are $5.00.  Michele is organizing all the TEAM SPENCER events.  If you are interested in donating toward the fund and/or getting a T-Shirt, please complete this form and return it by April 27 with your money.
NOTE:  If your child is participating in the 5th/3rd Fun Run or Riverbank, their donation is sufficient for the school fun run.  You do not need to donate to both.  Their donation will also be counted in the 100 kids goal.
