WELCOME BACK TO PE!!!!

It’s time to head back to the Georgetown Elementary gym! Hope you had a great summer!!! Parents please remind your children to bring a clean pair of tennis shoes to keep in their locker on the first day of school. This pair does not have to be new…just clean!! We ask that the students keep them in their locker so they will always have them for PE. In order to do their best, they have to have proper footwear. Thanks so much for helping us with that!!

Dress Like a PE Teacher Day

photo1Today was so fun at Georgetown…we had dress like a PE teacher day! So fun to see all the kids with their PE clothes and whistles around their necks. We wanted to celebrate all the students that have been training for a race. Hudsonville Running Club has their Eagle 5k race tomorrow morning and Girls on the Run will have their race after Spring Break. Thanks to all who participated!!!! What a fun day 🙂

Running Club

The Eagle 5k race is tomorrow morning! Our runners have done an excellent job with their workouts! We had our last running club mtg. on Wed. and we ended with a popsicle party!!

Reminder to wear your running club t-shirt to the race and dress in layers!! Mittens and hats may be needed also 🙂 We will meet in the gym at 8:15 and have a group picture taken at 8:20. Mrs. Nienhuis and Mrs. VanKoevering will be holding our bright yellow Running Club sign in the gym so that you can find us. Get a good nights sleep, eat a healthy breakfast and we will see you in the morning!

Hudsonville Running Club

Hudsonville Running Club is in full swing for grades 3rd-5th! We have been practicing for 3 weeks now and we just completed a 24 minute jog…YAY! We are all working very hard. Please remind your runner to do the at home workouts, they are very important for our training. The last day to register for the race is March 18 to be guaranteed a race shirt, so please don’t forget to mail in your race form that was included in your training packet. We received our running club shirts and took pictures by our Running Club Poster!

Jump Rope for Heart

We have completed our Jump Rope for Heart for 2014. We have some pictures to show you from the event and also a picture of Kiara (who jumped 140 times in one minute) and Leah (who jumped 138 times in one minute). They are both in Mr. Gorts class. Way to go girls!! We had lots of fun and our 5th grade students from Mrs. Burdis’ class came into the gym to help the K classes with all their jumping stations. Our wonderful Georgetown Families raised $3604.66 for the American Heart Association. We can not thank you enough for supporting this important cause!

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART

Coming soon…our annual Jump Rope for Heart Event. January 22-24 we will be sending home the Jump Rope for Heart collection envelopes. This is optional, but it is for a very good cause! All money collected will go to the American Heart Association. The money our school raises helps fund potentially lifesaving research for heart and blood vessel diseases. It also supports the development of educational materials that teach the importance of a healthy heart and staying physically fit. In short, our school is joining in the fight against our nation’s No. 1 killer- cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

All students will be participating in our JRFH event during PE class even if they choose not to collect donations. The dates of the event are Feb. 11-13. Please have all the collection envelopes handed in to us on or before Feb. 11.

If you would like your child to participate in the Jump Rope for Heart Event and raise money, please sign the consent form on the envelope (please leave it attached to the envelope) and your child can then begin to ask family and friends to support his/her participation through contributions. Your son/daughter can earn a number of prizes depending upon the amount of money collected. Last year we raised just over $4700.00…this year our goal is to do the same or better! Thanks for your help with this event!

FUN FACT

Our next FUN FACT is….. Did you know that your teeth start growing 6 months before you are born?  Wow!!!  While few babies are born with teeth in place, the teeth that will eventually push through the gums of young toddlers are formed long before the child leaves the womb.
