Jump Rope for Heart, Coming February 15-20!

We are busy finishing up our hockey/pillo polo unit with all of our classes.  Stay tuned for an update about the annual 5th grade teams vs. the teachers.  We will be playing that on Feb. 1.  🙂

Starting January 27 -February 1(our 4 day rotation), we will be talking with our classes about Jump Rope For Heart.  Each student will be getting information and a pledge envelope when they come to P.E., Jan. 27-Feb.1.  Please take the time to read the information and sign up your child/children if you are willing to help raise money for the American Heart Association.  Last year our school raised $8,648.00 and our goal this year is to raise the same or more.  Please keep checking the blog for more information about JRFH!

Jump Rope for Heart!

Dear Parents,

We kicked off our Jump Rope For Heart program in P.E  and our school’s event is Feb 17, 18 and 19 during P.E. class!  Pledge envelopes came home last Friday and are due on or before Feb. 19.

This is a fun and exciting event for our entire school as we work together to raise money for the American Heart Association and save lives! Last year our school raised $4,449.00 and our goal this year is to raise just as much or beat it!
Your students will be telling you about the Lifesaver puppies, so we wanted to fill you in! Each puppy teaches the kids a new way to protect their heart and avoid risk factors for heart disease and stroke. Your student can earn all 6!

If you raise $5 your student will get Super Pup at school now. If that donation is made online, they will also get a second puppy, Ninja Star. Any student who reaches $85 online will get Martia N. Mutley.

Need help raising donations? Trying using the online option!  If students sign-up on-line and send out 10 emails they can earn a surprise bag from the American Heart Association. We can see who signs-up and how many emails are sent, if you become part of the Georgetown team on-line.

You can sign up now by following these quick, easy steps to get started raising money and saving lives!

1. Go to www.heart.org/jump
2. Choose our state and city.
3. Select our school and join team.

Jump Rope for Heart

We have completed our Jump Rope for Heart for 2014. We have some pictures to show you from the event and also a picture of Kiara (who jumped 140 times in one minute) and Leah (who jumped 138 times in one minute). They are both in Mr. Gorts class. Way to go girls!! We had lots of fun and our 5th grade students from Mrs. Burdis’ class came into the gym to help the K classes with all their jumping stations. Our wonderful Georgetown Families raised $3604.66 for the American Heart Association. We can not thank you enough for supporting this important cause!

Jump Rope For Heart

We held our annual Jump Rope for Heart last week and all went well.  The kids all received a sticker and a book mark and many went home with prizes for winning Longest Jumper or Longest backwards Jumper!  The kids all had a great time jumping and listening to music.  The best part was the students raised $3004.00 for the American Heart Association!!!!!  So thankful for our many families at Georgetown that helped with this very important cause!  The thank you gifts for your donations will come in after Spring Break.  We will hand them out during P.E. as soon as we ge them.  Thanks so much!

Jump Rope for Heart

After finishing Jump Rope for Heart we had a total of $4737.74.   YAY!!!!!!!  We sent the check out to the American Heart Association and the students who donated money should receive their thank you gifts within 4-6 weeks.  Our top 4 donation givers were Johnny Torongeau with $155, Brandon Carr with $136, and Clayton and Madelynn Wierda each with $135.  Thanks so much to all the families that donated to this very worthy cause.  We so appreciate you!  Also, Sarah Spears in Mrs. Flory’s class, jumped 164 times in one minute!!  She received a medal!  Check out her picture below.

REMINDERS!

Just a quick reminder that if your child is raising money for Jump Rope For Heart, their pledge envelope is due this coming Monday, February 13.

Also please remember to have your students leave a pair of tennis shoes in their locker for P.E.   We are having students come with no tennis shoes and also shoes that are dirty because they are wearing them outside.  If they have a pair in their locker then they will be clean and prepared.  Thanks so much for your help.

Jump Rope For Heart!

Jump Rope for Heart information will be coming home with students Jan. 13-17.   We are trying to raise money for the American Heart Association again this year.   Heart disease is the nation’s No. 1 killer, and stroke is the third leading cause.  Childhood obesity has also increased to a point that it is considered an epidemic.   By raising money for the American Heart Association we are working together to tackle these problems.  The American Heart Association uses the money collected for research to end heart disease and for materials that teach about healthy hearts and why we need our young children to stay active.  Please help us raise funds for this important cause and help us top our amount of  $4691.00 that was raised last year.

P.E. Apparel forms will also be coming home Jan. 13-17.  Youngest and only will be getting these forms.  If you need a form you can click on the link below and print one off.   Forms and money are due back FEBRUARY 1 !
