Our annual P.E. C.A.R.E.S. Food Drive starts this Wed., November 1. The Food drive will continue until November 16. All the food collected will be given to Love Inc. in Hudsonville, which will help our local families. Thanks for your help and support in this community service project, and for taking this opportunity to teach our kids compassion and love for others.
The class that bring in the highest number of items will win a PE CARES t-shirt and a bowling field trip to Hudsonville Lanes.
Here is how many items GT families have brought in over the past years.
This year we are working on learning about the major bones in our bodies. Each month we will be learning new ones. In October we learned where the cranium and mandible are located. Ask your child/children if they can identify (word wall word) where these are located on their body.
This past week, we had a student from 2nd grade bring in a HUGE anatomy book to class and she pointed out these bones to her classmates. The book was almost bigger than her 🙂
November we will learn about the clavicle and sternum.
Please look for race information about the Turkey Trot Race. The paper is Blue and will be coming home this week with your kiddos. All registration forms are DUE BY OCTOBER 5!

I can not believe we are less than two weeks away from the start of school. I know we have enjoyed some time off but we are ready for routines again. So with routine comes school and with school comes math, reading, science, history, recess, and SPECIALS! Especially P.E. 🙂
Please come prepared for P.E. the first day of school with your tennis shoes. Remember that we ask for all students to keep a clean pair of shoes in their locker at school, so they are always prepared. GT rotates on a four day schedule and that will be tricky to remember when each class has P.E. So by keeping a pair of clean tennis shoes at school, they will always have them. Tennis shoes do not need to be new, just clean! Dirty shoes leave a mess in the gym and make our floor very slippery. Clean shoes = clean floor! Thanks for your cooperation.
See you next week at the open house,
Mrs. Nienhuis and Mrs. VanKoevering
We had a great ending to our mileage club. GT students ran 3,657 miles all together!!!!! We had our prize drawing last Friday and handed out our awards for the 20 mile runners! Way to go GT mileage club joggers 🙂
Yay, we have completed the Pacer test!! This is part of the Presidential Fitness Testing that we do with all 1st -5th grades. We have the mile and shuttle run to do next. We are hoping for some dry warm weather!!
Just a reminder that ALL P.E. Apparel order forms are Due Monday, April 24!

Wow….can not believe we are on the countdown for the end of the school year already. We are in the middle of 6 different rotations of physical fitness skills. We have completed our sit-ups and we are in process of completing sit and reach which tests our flexibility. Then we will focus on push-ups, shuttle run, the mile run and the pacer. So, lots to do and we are hoping for some warm weather to come our way!!
