I can not believe we are less than two weeks away from the start of school. I know we have enjoyed some time off but we are ready for routines again. So with routine comes school and with school comes math, reading, science, history, recess, and SPECIALS! Especially P.E. 🙂
Please come prepared for P.E. the first day of school with your tennis shoes. Remember that we ask for all students to keep a clean pair of shoes in their locker at school, so they are always prepared. GT rotates on a four day schedule and that will be tricky to remember when each class has P.E. So by keeping a pair of clean tennis shoes at school, they will always have them. Tennis shoes do not need to be new, just clean! Dirty shoes leave a mess in the gym and make our floor very slippery. Clean shoes = clean floor! Thanks for your cooperation.
See you next week at the open house,
Mrs. Nienhuis and Mrs. VanKoevering
We had a great ending to our mileage club. GT students ran 3,657 miles all together!!!!! We had our prize drawing last Friday and handed out our awards for the 20 mile runners! Way to go GT mileage club joggers 🙂
Yay, we have completed the Pacer test!! This is part of the Presidential Fitness Testing that we do with all 1st -5th grades. We have the mile and shuttle run to do next. We are hoping for some dry warm weather!!
Wow, so far GT students have logged 1,113 miles!!!!! Way to go kids, keep up the great work 🙂
Wow….can not believe we are on the countdown for the end of the school year already. We are in the middle of 6 different rotations of physical fitness skills. We have completed our sit-ups and we are in process of completing sit and reach which tests our flexibility. Then we will focus on push-ups, shuttle run, the mile run and the pacer. So, lots to do and we are hoping for some warm weather to come our way!!
WOW! Teachers pull off the win again, but it was close. 5th graders 1, teachers 2! It was a great game and the teachers were sweating this one out. The 5th graders put up a great fight, but teachers are still undefeated. This is the 11th year we have played the 5th graders and we keep getting older and they stay the same 🙂 Every year is harder and harder, but still so much fun!
Time to get out your whistles and tennis shoes so you can dress like your PE Teacher!!!! Tomorrow, Friday Jan 27 is the big day 🙂
We are busy finishing up our hockey/pillo polo unit with all of our classes. Stay tuned for an update about the annual 5th grade teams vs. the teachers. We will be playing that on Feb. 1. 🙂
Starting January 27 -February 1(our 4 day rotation), we will be talking with our classes about Jump Rope For Heart. Each student will be getting information and a pledge envelope when they come to P.E., Jan. 27-Feb.1. Please take the time to read the information and sign up your child/children if you are willing to help raise money for the American Heart Association. Last year our school raised $8,648.00 and our goal this year is to raise the same or more. Please keep checking the blog for more information about JRFH!
On Friday, December 16 the fourth graders from Mr. Kooikers class got to head to Hudsonville Lanes for winning the P.E. C.A.R.E.S. food drive contest. The fourth graders got to bowl two games, and had so much fun. Thanks to Hudsonville Lanes for supporting our food drive cause and allowing us to go bowling for free. Thanks again to all of our GT families for making the food drive a success.
P.S. Thanks to the Hilaski Family for bringing in pizza to share with Mr. K’s fourth graders. It was super good!
We decided to do fitness stations with all kinds of equipment! Our treadmill, bicycles, fit boards, ARC machine, strength bands, weights and more! Here are a few pictures…
