Well it has been awhile since we posted about bones. We now have a total of 11 bones that we are trying hard to remember. We just recently learned about the femur and patella.
Our list includes the following:
cranium, mandible, clavicle, sternum, ribs, humerus, radius, ulna, pelvis, femur and patella.
See if your kiddos can show you where they are 🙂
We have a new Student Teacher in the gym. Her name is Holly VanNoord and she grew up in Hudsonville and goes to Liberty College. She will be with us for 8 wks and then will work at the High School for 8 wks. Her undergrad work was in physical education and she is doing her Masters of Teaching right now. She played soccer at Liberty and her favorite hobbies are playing sports and being active outside! Welcome Holly 🙂
Once again the Elementary P.E. Department will be selling Hudsonville Physical Education Apparel. Please look for the information to be coming home this Friday.

We are wrapping up our nutrition unit and did the activity called Food Bus, where the students have to go shop for all 5 food groups and add them correctly to their My Plate. Here are some pictures!
We had a great year of giving for PE CARES!!! GT elementary students and their families donated 3,987 items to Love Inc. in Hudsonville. Thank you all for supporting this very worthwhile cause. Mr. Kooikers class collected the most and will be given a PE CARES bowling t-shirt and taking a field trip to Hudsonville Lanes in the near future 🙂 Way to go!!!
Our annual P.E. C.A.R.E.S. Food Drive starts this Wed., November 1. The Food drive will continue until November 16. All the food collected will be given to Love Inc. in Hudsonville, which will help our local families. Thanks for your help and support in this community service project, and for taking this opportunity to teach our kids compassion and love for others.
The class that bring in the highest number of items will win a PE CARES t-shirt and a bowling field trip to Hudsonville Lanes.
Here is how many items GT families have brought in over the past years.
This year we are working on learning about the major bones in our bodies. Each month we will be learning new ones. In October we learned where the cranium and mandible are located. Ask your child/children if they can identify (word wall word) where these are located on their body.
This past week, we had a student from 2nd grade bring in a HUGE anatomy book to class and she pointed out these bones to her classmates. The book was almost bigger than her 🙂
November we will learn about the clavicle and sternum.
So sorry we had to cancel the Turkey Trot, but it was the right call to make. It rained a ton again today. Even though it was rained out we did get together for a group photo. GT had 204 participants this year! Thanks to all of our 2017 TT sponsors too!
Enjoy the photo!
Please look for race information about the Turkey Trot Race. The paper is Blue and will be coming home this week with your kiddos. All registration forms are DUE BY OCTOBER 5!
